The present whereabouts of these students may best be expressed in tabular form. Their geographical location is also shown in the outline map which forms Appendix No.1 to this report. It will be noticed that the majority of them have entered one of the Universities or Colleges of Free China. Some of the later arrivals have not yet been accepted at a University and are grouped under the heading "Plans Undecided". A very few have discontinued their studies in favour of some form of employment for the time being.

The preparation of the above tables and the establishment of contact with all members of the Hong Kong University in Free Ching has entalled a considerable amount of secretarial work, which has`. been ably carried out by Miss Loung Lan Wan, former lutor in English at the University. A card index has been prepared which includes the name of every student who has received assistance, together with full particulars of his academic status, method of escape from Hong Kong," plans for the future and the University which he ultimately enters. A record is also kept on this card of the nature of any financial assistance which has been given, together with the date, amount and purpose. A separate record has also been kept giving particulars of recent Graduates and Staff Members of the University who have succeeded in leaving dong Dong.

EXPENDITURE. The earliest estimates as to the cost of relief work were based on the assumption that about 200 students would come out of dong Kong. It was estimated that the cost per head for the provision of Immediate relief wouldn the region of $1000. Later, it was recommended by the Univ
